Rail Tours in England

Sit back and watch the beautiful English countryside rush by as you travel on a high speed train to more remote corners of this striking country.

Zip up to Scotland for the day and visit the historic city of Edinburgh.  Famous for its stately castle and ornate architecture, many an hour can be whiled away strolling down the medieval cobbled streets.

The ancient city of York is a little nearer.  Delightfully quaint and historically rich, York has stood witness to over 2000 years of history.  Bedecked in intricate Gothic carvings, the soaring Minster is one of the most magnificent building in the country.

We also recommend a day in Cardiff, the capital of Wales.  Packed with hundreds of things to see and do, this thriving city buzzes with life. Grand Victorian shopping arcades weave through rafts of bars and restaurants.  If you have time, its worth organising a walking tour inside the Millennium Stadium.  This prestigious sports arena is now internationally famous.

For the Harry Potter fans among you, Alnwick Castle in Northumberland is a remarkable sight.  The imposing building is surrounded by deep woodland, exotic gardens and mile of lush open countryside.

Similarly, the Lake District, celebrated for its beautiful landscape, is a great rural retreat.  Rolling hills, vast stretches of water and chocolate-box villages a ubiquitous features of the area.  Made famous by the Beatrix Potter stories, the timeless scenery of the Lake District is both historical and wonderfully English.

Premium Tours, Golden Tours and Evan Evans all offer a number of rail tours.  They organise everything from booking your rail tickets to escorting you to your train, all you have to do is relax, watch the world go by and feast your eyes on some of England's most cherished landmarks.

Steam Train Day Trips

Escape the city in style.  Evoking smoky images of the past, there is something essentially romantic about steam trains.  Steam Dreams, has managed to cling onto this wonderful tradition and give folk the opportunity to ride the rails in period carriages pulled by vintage engines.

The company does frequent day trips to a number of destinations including Scarborough, Bath, Gloucester, Oxford and Ely.  Customers are given plenty of time to explore these wonderful towns before returning to London.

A number of seating categories are available.  Standard tickets include seats only.  First Class tickets inlcude a glass of champagne on boarding and complimentary tea and coffee served all day.  In Standard and First, it's also possible to prebook hampers (at a cost) for the outbound and inbound journeys, served in stylish traditional wicker hampers.  Alternatively, there is also a super buffet available to these passengers, although all food and drink bought here is additionally charged.

For a real taste of elegance, we recommend Premium Dining tickets.  This includes a champagne brunch in the morning and a three course dinner in the evening.  Speeding through the countryside amid a plume of smoke is a wonderfully nostalgic way to dine in style.
